Setting Out to Snap Toronto

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Just Kick It, originally uploaded by therozblog.

Going to start my Toronto photo series this weekend.. as I mentioned before, the Schmap nod has really gotten me excited about taking still photos again.

The more I work in multimedia, the more I’ve come to realize the power of a single silent shot, snapped at just the right moment.

Amy Tan said something really interesting in her TEDTalk about creativity. She said that once you focus, things start to present themselves in such a serendipitous way that it feels like the universe is pulling you along. I couldn’t agree more.

In the last few days, since I started thinking about embarking on this little project, the richness and diversity of Toronto has really presented itself, as though begging me to pull out my camera and photograph it. From a group of men playing cards at dusk under a streetlamp in a Loblaws parking lot - to a happy Jamaican lad in a bright yellow T-shirt wishing me a “great day!” on a grey and rainy Friday morning.

I’m excited to try and capture the places, but more importantly - the people - that make up this great city.

The amazing redandjonny have submitted a plethora of hilarious titles for me to choose from - among them ‘Rozonto’, ‘JPEG Jane’.. and my personal favourite that makes me fall to the floor laughing - ‘Moments of Roz.’ Check em out here and let me know what you think!! (alpha this means you)

Happy long weekend everybody!!
